"There was a pine tree in her grandmother's courtyard. It had been large for as long as she could remember.

Years later, walking through an unfamiliar park, she found herself under a pine tree. The same sound came back.
She stood there a long time. Didn't move.
She wasn't the kind of person who believed in that sort of thing. But in that moment she thought: some things can live inside a tree — a particular quality of air, a temperature, a feeling that calls up a specific place.
Some places you can never go back to. But they live in your body. And one day, another tree wakes them."
