Jewellery Care Guide
Your DEDE piece is crafted from 925 sterling silver with 18K gold plating — a combination chosen for its warmth, durability, and skin-safe finish. With the right care, your jewellery will stay beautiful for years.
The Golden Rules
Keep it dry when it counts. Our pieces are designed to be water-resistant for everyday wear — light hand washing and brief contact with water is fine. However, avoid prolonged exposure to water such as swimming, showering daily with your jewellery on, or soaking. Chlorine in pools and salt in the ocean can accelerate the wearing of the plating.
No perfume directly on the piece. Always apply perfume, body lotion, sunscreen, and hairspray before putting on your jewellery — never spray directly onto the piece. Alcohol and chemicals in these products are the number one cause of early tarnishing on gold-plated silver.
Take it off before sleep and exercise. Sweat contains salts and acids that gradually affect plating over time. Removing your jewellery before workouts and before bed significantly extends its life.
Store it properly. Keep each piece in the pouch or box it came in, away from direct sunlight and humidity. Storing pieces separately prevents scratching. A cool, dry drawer is ideal.
Clean it gently. If your piece needs cleaning, use a soft dry cloth (a silver polishing cloth is ideal — one is included with every order). Avoid abrasive cloths, toothpaste, or chemical jewellery cleaners, as these can damage the plating.

Our pieces are nickel-free and hypoallergenic, making them suitable for sensitive skin. If you have a known metal allergy, we recommend consulting with your doctor before wearing any plated jewellery.
Plating Lifespan
18K gold plating over sterling silver is more durable than gold-plated brass (used by many fast-fashion jewellery brands). With proper care, the plating typically lasts 1–3 years before any fading becomes noticeable. The rate of wear depends on your skin chemistry, lifestyle, and how often the piece is worn.
If you notice significant wear to the plating, many local jewellers offer re-plating services at a low cost.
